Ellsemere is the last city of humankind - or at least humankind within Vernian. Originally the capitol in the centre of a fairly expansive country, all but the capitol was laid to ruin in the Cataclysm that saw magic devastate much of the land, leaving only charred ruins where there was remains at all. Ironically, while it was an overindulgence in magic that saw the human kingdom razed, it also preserved what was left of it, for the magical protective wards around the city are what allowed it to endure, damaged not not destroyed.
