Marschensloss Castle is the residence of the royal family. Since Queen Avarein's ascension, it seemingly had all vestiges of merriment stolen from it. The castle overlooks Dornröschen in the Rätsel Mountains. Aschenputtel lies on the Svanereden, and Rotkäppchen hugs the southeastern border of the Black Forest. Schneewittchen is a dwarven village that straddles the border of the Rätsel Mountains and the Black Forest.
Government
Eons ago the royal family of Fairhafen made a pact with the gods to rule fairly in return for dominion over the land. For generation upon generation, the royal family upheld a system of feudalism, but one where the excesses of the noble class were reigned in. With the death of King Drosselbart and the permanent incapacitation of his daughter Princess Rosenbriar, this has enabled Queen Avarein to take the throne as Princess Rosenbriar's regent. (Queen Avarein is the second wife of King Drosselbard and stepmother to Princess Rosenbriar.) The Queen has attempted to alleviate the hassles of rulership on herself by affording more petty powers and responsibilities to the nobles. This has enabled them to come to abuse their stations like never before. However, in matters of greater importance, the Queen is the exact opposite. She has demonstrated that she rules with an iron fist
Society and Culture
Travelers from foreign lands are likely to find the denizens of Fairhafen more vibrant than the people of some of the drearier domains. This both because of the Fairhafener style of dress (very colorful) and responsiveness to foreigners (polite and welcoming.) Queen Avarein calls for all newcomers to her land to be brought to her castle, but the commoners typically help travelers elude such detection.
